AHLIA C. KARAM
Ahlia brings over seven years of experience writing, reviewing and interviewing for a prominent Meanjin-based film magazine. Now based in Naarm and ready to embark on this new chapter. She is a distinguished member of the Australian Film Critics Association, contributing to local film festivals and exploring new avenues.
Her keen interest in both international and queer cinema stemmed from the lack of diversity in mainstream offerings. She started to look outside this realm to find stories that could resonate with a wider audience. She was not only looking to see herself, her experiences, but that of others across the globe. She was desperate to engage with a variety of storytelling, a shift in tones and a cataclysm of soundtracks and cinematography that could take her on a journey outside of the bubble of middle class Australia she existed in.
ALEXANDER W. POSSINGHAM
Alexander, with an academic background in film and video game genre and convergence studies, published across several areas. He’s presented at several conferences, including the FHAAANZ and CPCC, as well as having written and edited for various arts magazines such as College Magazine, and Critical Distance. In addition he has lectured and taught at both Monash and Flinders University.
He brings a keen interest in the full gamut of high and low brow movies, from the trashiest sci-fi horror to the languorous slow cinema epic. This expansion of taste has led him all over. Through working with film screening groups in Naarm he seeks to expand viewing options for fellow film freaks. An obsessive archiver and preservationist, he champions access for all. Living in fear of stellar works being lost forever. If you’re looking for it, he’ll find it.
